This site provides information and updates related to the US National Science Foundation CNH project “Living With Locusts: connecting soil nitrogen, locust outbreaks, livelihoods, and livestock markets” and the connected SEES Fellows project: “Living with locusts: Training an ecophysiologist in bioeconomic modeling and building collaborative partnerships with applied food security and agricultural agencies.”

We use theoretical and empirical approaches to assess how livestock practices influence soil nitrogen dynamics and how that, in turn, affects the chances for and severity of locust outbreaks. In turn, we seek to assess how the feedbacks from such outbreaks affect decision-making in livestock management.
